I'm taking part in The Big Marsden Trek
My sister and I are walking a marathon to raise money for The Royal Marsden!
Yes… walking, not running, but note we will be covering the ‘mountainous’ region of Box Hill & surrounding Surrey hills on what will hopefully be a sunny Sunday September 13th.
The Royal Marsden has looked after my dad, and countless others, while going through cancer, and I really do think it’s worthy of our donations.
I feel quite sure my dad outrunning his prognosis has a lot to do with his unique brand of stubbornness. But I know the people who cared for him, and the treatments made possible by the Marsden's research, made a profound difference too. Ella, his chemotherapy nurse, had a big hand in getting us all through some of the tougher days - an angel with a wicked sense of humour. There is something about the place itself too, I never imagined that somewhere people go to receive chemotherapy could feel calm, but somehow it did.
The Marsden is first a cancer treatment centre, serving both NHS and private patients, but it runs significant research and education centres too. It also operates clinical trials, including one of the world's largest phase I drug development units, testing new treatments and immunotherapies before they become widely available.
To my own personal absolute gratitude and joy, this place extends lives - which in our case has meant more time with the dad we adore. Although not everyone is as lucky as we have been, the more funding it receives, the more lucky people in future.
So I’m asking for your money please, anything you can give would be received with true appreciation! I’m doing this for my dad, for my friend’s dad, and for every family going through this right now.
