My story

Thursday 27th Aug
Hello everyone, my name is Ray and im 58yrs old.

Towards the end 2023 I started getting abit breathless and had a slight cough... i ignored it like most of us do!

My partner kept sending me to the doctors from January 2024 and they kept sending me for chest X-rays and giving me antibiotics, suspecting chest infections.

My X-rays were always clear.

In July I finally asked them to do other tests rather than yet another X-ray.
Begrudgingly I was sent for a CT scan.

8 weeks later, on the 2nd October, my little boys birthday, the doctors called and said I had a lump and shadows showing in my right lung.

From there it was all fast track for biopsies and more tests.

On the 5th November 2024, my dads death anniversary, I got the diagnosis I had been dreading. I have lung cancer, stage 3.

Under Dr Sevitts care I started a radical radiotherapy course. 33 lots of radiotherapy and 6 lots of chemotherapy.

I started my treatment on the 11th December and completed it on the 23rd January 2025 🎉

Things seemed to be improving and my cancer had shrunk and remained dormant.
I was moved onto 6 monthly scans instead of 3 monthly in December.

Unfortunately within 4 months I noticed my cough had returned and I was getting more breathless and tired again.
On the 29th May 2026 I was told the news.

My cancer is back, stage 4 and unfortunately i can't be fixed this time.

I started Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy on the 20th July.

It makes me incredibly tired and unfortunately I had a nasty reaction to the first lot so my dosage has been reduced slightly.

During the time I have left I am doing what I can to raise money for cancer charities in the hope of being able to help others in the future.

Myself, my family and friends are doing the 50k September for Royal Marsden and I am also doing a sky dive on the 19th September with a good friend. I am terrified as I'm not good with heights 😂

One last thing, please don't ignore any signs and symptoms like I initially did. Get checked out 💕
