A bit about me

Thursday 23rd Jul
In 2013 when my son was 5 I found a lump. I was 31 years old. Cancer is a long horrible journey. Chemo side effects, reactions to treatment, infections, hospital stays, surgeries and failed implants. BRCA2 gene carrier which I found out mid treatment. This meant more surgery when I turned 40 and was then allowed to start hrt. Life sucks sometimes but I was so blessed by the staff at the Marsden. When I was admitted to Sutton as well as Chelsea. The lonely 2am nights when all you can do is walk the corridors only to be supported by the most compassionate staff. From the cleaners to the canteen staff to the porters to the nurses, everyone was always friendly and compassionate. But the true emotional support team were the nurses. The gave me a hug or shared a story or listened to me grumble about pain and nausea. They treated me like a friend each time I went in for pre chemo checks, oncologist visits, scans and surgeries. 12 years on when I go for check ups they still great me like a long lost friend. During the most horrible and traumatic time of my life I met the most amazing people. They kept me going and gave me hope even when things looked hopeless. I will be forever grateful to the staff who always took the time to ask how I was. Not just my symptoms and side effects but how I truly was because they cared. To all the staff. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
