Story about me .........

24th March 2018 was the worse day of my life, having those words said to you “you have Leukaemia” made my whole world come crashing down before me. Even more bizarre, I didn’t fit any of the causes that would have triggered this off. To this day it’s still a mystery and I live in hope it never returns. 

I am so thankful for my family, friends, and work colleagues for sticking by me all throughout! It meant so much to me and it kept me going❤️❤️.

I think it’s prudent at this point to share with you what to look out for, and the symptoms I had over a period of 7 weeks (before diagnosis), and doctors were miss diagnosing me:

The symptoms of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) usually develop over a few weeks and will include:

• Skin looking pale or "washed out"
• Tiredness
• Breathlessness
• Losing weight without trying
• Frequent infections
• Having a high temperature, and feeling hot or shivery (fever)
• Night sweats
• Unusual and frequent bleeding, such as bleeding gums or nosebleeds
• Easily bruised skin
• Flat red or purple spots on the skin
• Bone and joint pain
• A feeling of fullness or discomfort in your tummy
• Swollen glands in your neck, armpit or groin that may be sore when you touch them

If you display any of the symptoms, it’s not to say you have Cancer, however I would strongly pursue them even if the doctor says it’s a “virus” (which happened to me).  If something doesn’t feel right, get it checked out immediately!!! Early detection, the better the cure!!!

I was very lucky as I was placed on a trial for new treatments and it worked.  The trial gave me hope and a reason to keep going.  Every penny raised goes to research leading to new treatments and it will save lives.... I am living proof!!!  I know we have still a long way to go, but we are already seeing more advance treatments to help combat all types of Cancers.

Cancer has taught me that nothing is impossible & the challenges only make you stronger. If you have goals and dreams, don’t postpone them, get out there and live it to the fullest!!
