Walk 50km in September

By donating to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, you’re helping to make a significant difference to the lives of cancer patients and their loved ones. 

Your funds will help to provide the very best care for cancer patients and develop life-saving treatments which are used here in the UK and around the world.

I started walking again 1.September 2026 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. 

I was operated at the Royal Marsden Hospital eight years ago for Bladder Cancer. It was the most incredible experience. The staff were just amazing. Nothing was ever too much for them.
I will try to walk 50km in the month of September and hopefully be able to raise some money for the Royal Marsden Hospital.

30 September - FINAL DAY !

Wednesday 30th Sep
Well, that's it. Today is the final day for walking/ running.
Walked today 1.6km - the furthest walk since two weeks ago. 
Total walked in September 39.8km - not quite 50km but...
the team - Kristiina, Teddy ( 13) , Forrest ( 8) and Clementine yesterday 5 plus Jan for a total of 150km !!
We collected £ 720 !. Thank you so much for your Generosity !

One more day !  Total so far £725 !  Amazing, thank you ! 
Walked already  1.2km. 
Maybe another walk later in the evening.
Incredible weather again : 25 degrees !

Monday 28th September

Well, two days to go !! 

Weather is cloudy, 18degrees but tomorrow it 
should be another WARM day!
Kristiina and the Kids have walked together so far : 85km !!!
Jan : 28.8km
I have walked today so far:1.3km, total 36.6km.
Together as a team we have walked : 150.4km!


Sunday 27th September

Walked 0.6km, Total: 35.3km

Kristiina walked at Legoland with the kids : 7km , total: 56km !!

Weather : Overcast.

Saturday - 26th September

Another beautiful day - 20degrees - blue sky;
 Real " Indian Summer "
Kristiina walked today 6km, total : 49km,
Teddy ( 13) walked 6km.
Forrest ( 8) +  Clementine( 4)  biked 6km, together they covered 24km!!
I walked today 1.4km , total : 34.6km.
Beautiful sunset this evening!

Friday - 25th September

Kristiina ran 6km today,  Total : 43km !! she is on the way to make the 50km goal despite having started late !!

I walked today 0.7km, total 32.9km.

Another gorgeous day. 20 degrees, Blue Sky !!

Walked today 0.7km.  Total 32.2km - slowly inching forward !

Walked 1.7km , Total 31.4km

Kristiina walked 3km, total: 37km 
Clementine( 4)  also participated and rode her bike 3km !!

Don't think I will make  the goal by 30th September but  we exceeded our  financial goal already x4 due to the generous support of our friends.

Walked 03.km , total: 29.7km - inching forward but still slow.

Well, a beautiful sunny day. Blue sky all day.  24 degrees !!!
but no walk/runnig today.
Kristiina ran 8km , total: 34km - has  overtaken us all !

Sunday - 20th September

Beautiful day today. Great temp : 18degrees.
I walked 0.9km, total: 29.2km 
Still taking it easy.

Jan is taking off a day after his walk yesterday. total: 28.24km

Kristiina  walked  today 2km, total:. 26km

Saturday - 19th September

Friday 18th Sep
Well, slow day today, getting settled in again at home.
Walked five minutes to the Common and back !
 0.8km,   total: 28.3km

Jan walked today 5.24km, total: 28.24km 
 on the Roman Road in Creekmore.( see Photo)
 
Kristiina ran 5km, total : 24km


 

Thursday - 17 September 2026

 I'am back home after the surprise medical issue few days ago. Unfortunately I'am  not allowed yet to walk but Kristiina and Jan doing a great job picking up the Baton. 
Jan walked   Total: 23km
Kristiina ran Total : 19km
my Total: 27.1km

Well, my walking days have come to a crushing halt: Had a Heart Attack last nite and they rushed me at 4AM to Wexham where a team receiced me and operated immediately. One Artery totall blocked; they cleared it by putting in a Stent! So have to slowly pickup my walking but in the meantime Kristiina our daughter and our son Jan-Erik will continue walking for the RM in September!!
Should hopefully be  back home in three days. Maybe should not have attempted to walk 50km when u are 83!

Day 14 - Sunday - 1.5km.

Sunday 13th Sep
Rainy Day  but still quite warm - 21degrees C.

Day 13 - Saturday - walked 2.7km, total 24.9km

Saturday 12th Sep
Getting close to halfway !

Weather still good and 21 degrees !

Latchmoore Pond still totally empty !

Day 12 - Friday - walked 2.7km - total: 22.1km, Kristiina ran 5.2km : total of 10.4km !

Friday 11th Sep
Today weather was dry but muggy 22degrees !

Pond still very empty.

Today short walk !
Weather cool 17 degrees  but just great for a walk.

Tuesday Day 9: Walked at Costco !!

Tuesday 8th Sep
Heavy rain today  until 1500  and 17degrees ! What a change in the weather therefore went shopping at Costco and walked 1.8 km.
I assume walking while shopping still counts.

Monday - Day 8 - walked 1.8km.

Monday 7th Sep
Actually, my Daughter, Kristiina  is running/ walking for me as well and so far  ran 9km since 1st of September !

Beautiful day again for walking. 22 Degrees.

KP : So far 14.2 km !  Kristiina: 9km. Kristiina's landscape today.

Day 7 - Sunday : walked 1.7km

Sunday 6th Sep

Beautiful sunny day - 25 degrees.

Day 6 -Saturday - walked 3.3km today - total so far:10.6km

Beautiful sunny day - 21 degrees. Great weather for the walk.

1.7km today - dull day - no sun but in the Forest it was nice. 

Total so far : 7.3km . 42.7km to go !!
