My Updates

Every Step Counts 💗

Monday 28th Sep

This year has been one of the hardest journeys of mine and my families life.

I’m taking part in this challenge to support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, a cause that feels incredibly close to my heart. The charity helps ensure that The Royal Marsden’s world-leading nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care, while also supporting the development of life-saving treatments that are used across the UK and around the world.

And this year, I’ve experienced first-hand just how important that care is.

As many of you are aware I’m currently on my own breast cancer journey. So far, I’ve been through six rounds of chemotherapy and two surgeries, we’ve counted well over a hundred needles with radiotherapy still to come. It has been a physically and emotionally exhausting year, and there have been plenty of moments when I’ve wondered whether I would have the strength to take on something like this challenge.

The Royal Marsden has made monumental contributions to treating both Hormone Receptor-Positive (HR+) and HER2-Positive (HER2+) breast cancers, leading global clinical trials that have reshaped standard care and introduced targeted therapies.

When you’re going through treatment, even the things that once felt simple can suddenly feel like huge achievements. There have been days when I’ve felt completely exhausted, when putting one foot in front of the other has felt like an effort in itself.

But I decided to try.

This month, I’ve walked a total of 89 kilometres.

I know that, compared with what some people might achieve, 89 km may not sound like a huge distance. But for me, after suffering with post chemotherapy fatigue, along with two surgeries and severe nerve pain at times, and with radiotherapy still ahead, it feels like a lot.

Every kilometre represents effort. Every step represents a day when I could have stayed at home and rested, but instead found a little bit of strength to keep moving. Some days the walks have been short, some days harder than others, but each one has reminded me that I’m stronger than I sometimes feel.

This challenge isn’t just about the distance. It’s about raising awareness, raising money and supporting the incredible work being done to help people affected by cancer.

I’m walking for everyone who has heard the words “you have cancer”, the families and friends supporting them, for the nurses, doctors, researchers and everyone working tirelessly to improve treatment and save lives.

And, on a very personal level, I’m walking for myself — to remind myself how far I’ve already come.

89 km might just be a number, but to me, it represents strength, determination and taking one step at a time.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me, encouraged me, and checked in on us, It means more than you know. 💗

I wasn’t even sure I’d make 50km this month and have held off asking for donations until I knew I’d achieved it! If you could donate and help me reach my goal it would mean the world.

One step at a time. One day at a time. And always moving forward. 🎀
