Team Matt - One Step at a Time
On Sunday 13th September, I’ll be taking on the Big Marsden Trek , a huge 26.2-mile walk from Dorking to The Royal Marsden.
A few weeks ago, our lives changed completely when Matt, my Fiancé and my absolute rock was diagnosed with HPV-positive throat cancer.
What followed has been a whirlwind of appointments, scans, biopsies, specialists and an awful lot of uncertainty. We now know that Matt is facing a tough & long course of treatment, starting just a few days prior to this walk.
It’s difficult to put into words what it feels like watching someone you love go through cancer. There are days when it feels frightening and overwhelming, but Matt continues to show an incredible amount of strength, determination and humour.
So, rather than just sitting on the side lines, I wanted to do something and because Matt is so incredibly loved by his beautiful family there’s going to be a team of us taking on this mammoth walk.
We’re going to walk 26.2 miles , which, when you think about it, is completely bloody ridiculous! 😂 But we’ll be doing it together, with Matt at the heart of every single step.
We’re raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, because cancer research, better treatments and support for patients and their families matter more to us now than they ever have before.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help us reach our target and will give us an enormous boost on what is going to be one very long day .
Most importantly, this walk is for Matt.
+ For his strength.
+ For his courage.
+ For his family.
+ For everyone who has been affected by cancer.
+ And for the hope that one day, cancer will be something far less frightening for the people who hear those words.
So on Sunday 13th September, we’ll be putting one foot in front of the other, probably complaining about our legs somewhere around mile 18, and reminding ourselves why we started.
Matt is going to kick cancer’s butt. And we’re going to walk every bloody mile with him❤️
