We did it!!! Thank you!
26.2 miles. 42km. An absolutely ridiculous number of blisters. We actually did it!
On Sunday, we took on the Marsden Trek for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, and it was quite a day.
We went into it thinking there would be one or two hills. How wrong we were. The Surrey Hills were relentles and the absolute hidden MONSTER in Tadworth was something else. Box Hill has got nothing on that thing!
The light rain at the beginning was actually quite nice and made for a pretty comfortable start. We were feeling pretty good… although by the end of the day we were back in the rain, which felt slightly less enjoyable after 40-odd kilometres.
One of us (Addy!) was still battling a heavy cold on Saturday, so there was some genuine uncertainty about whether we’d make it all the way. Thankfully, we cracked on and managed to get through it.
We also came prepared with an insane selection of snacks, which turned out to be one of the more important decisions of the day. There was a lot of eating along the way, alongside plenty of water, chatting and wondering when the next checkpoint was going to appear.
The biggest problem by the end was our feet. The number of blisters was genuinely ridiculous. Walking became increasingly painful, and by the final few kilometres we were both completely done.
So, naturally, we decided to jog some of the final stretch purely out of desperation to get to the finish line. Not our finest running performance, but it got the job done.
And then we finally crossed the finish line after 42km.
Very tired, very wet, very sore feet - but very pleased to have actually completed it.
