Walking 50km – every step for Fairer Futures!

Turning steps into life-saving support

I’ve signed up to the Walk 50km Challenge in September in support of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. It’s a cause that matters deeply to me, and one that Nationwide is proudly backing through our Fairer Futures programme.

The Royal Marsden is a key partner in this programme, and their work ensures world-leading nurses, doctors, and researchers can provide exceptional care and develop treatments that save lives across the UK.

Like so many families, mine too has been touched by cancer. This challenge is my way of honouring those experiences, proving to myself that I can take it on, and reconnecting with the fitness I once enjoyed before lockdown — from long walks to yoga and Zumba.

I’m taking part with my colleagues, each of us aiming to complete 50km and raise at least £150, adding up to an even greater impact together.

Every kilometre I walk will be for those facing cancer. Every pound raised will help The Royal Marsden continue their vital work in care, research, and life-saving treatments.

🟦 Walk 50km Challenge – Day One Update 🚶🏻‍♂️

Tuesday 2nd Sep

Today marks the official start of the #Walk50km challenge, I’ve linked my Apple Watch to track my walks throughout the month, and I’m all set!

I’ve now raised £105, which is 70% of my £150 goal. Thank you so much to everyone who’s donated and followed my journey so far 🙌

Now I’d love to ask for as many donations as possible, whatever you can give, even if it’s just £1, makes a real difference. Don’t forget to tick the Gift Aid box if you’re eligible as it boosts your donation at no extra cost to you.

It doesn’t matter if you donate anonymously, with your name, or as a group - whatever you’re comfortable with. What matters is that we’re doing this together 💙

And yes… I’ll be racking up the kilometres even on holiday - Dean’s sponsorship comes with strings attached and I have to drag myself out of bed for morning walks 😅

A little challenge within the challenge…

I’ll be on holiday for a week in September, and while I’m notorious for sleeping in, my fiancé Dean has made a deal with me… He’ll sponsor me, but his sponsorship comes with strings attached:

I have to drag myself out of bed early and join him for morning walks to rack up the kilometres 😅
